Mr. Sagalow is a founding member of Lemonade. Founded in 2015, Lemonade is the first licensed and regulated InsureTech insurance company in the United States. Lemonade offers homeowners and renters insurance powered by artificial intelligence and behavioral economics. Launched in September 2016 in New York, Lemonade Insurance Company is operating in both New York, New Jersey, California and Illinois (as of 9/1/17) with expected operations in multiple additional states in the coming weeks and months. In its first 9 months of operations, Lemonade captured 1% of the NY Renters market and now issues over 2,000 new policies every week.

On July 1, 2017, Ty retired from his position as Chief Insurance Officer of Lemonade but continues as a board member of the Lemonade Insurance Company, and regularly advises other companies in the Fintech/InsurTech space.

Ty is a 36 year senior insurance executive veteran. Most of Ty’s career was spent at AIG where over a 25 year period he held various positions including Chief Underwriting Officer and General Counsel of AIG Executive Liability (D&O, E&O), Chief Operating Officer of AIG eBusiness Risk Solutions (Cyber insurance) and President of AIG Product Development. Following AIG, Mr. Sagalow was Chief Innovation Officer of Zurich North American and Chief Innovation Officer of Tower Group. Immediately prior to Lemonade, Ty founded Innovation Insurance Group, LLC, a premier consulting firm to the insurance industry.

Mr. Sagalow is considered on the world’s experts in innovation in the insurance industry having been credited with creating various insurance products including Y2k Insurance, (Entity Cover) Directors and Officers Insurance, Cyber insurance, Reputation Insurance, Collectible Authenticity Insurance and Intellectual Property Collateral Insurance. He is also the host of the series Innovations in Insurance With Ty Sagalow and What’s New in Insurance, both produced by World Risk and Insurance News.

Saad Mered was appointed as Global Chief Claims Officer for Zurich’s General Insurance Segment in January 2014, and Group Chief Claims Officer in June 2016. In this role, Saad leads over 10,000 claims professionals across more than 40 countries delivering to customers through 4.5 million claims per year representing $19 billion in payments and $28.8 billion in case reserves. Saad is overseeing the transformation of the claims organization as it embraces the digital age and the ubiquitous use of data so that Zurich may surpass our customers’ expectations, across segments.

Prior to that role, Saad was Chief Executive Officer, Middle East and & Africa, for Zurich’s General Insurance Segment from October 2010. The region included the key strategic growth markets of Turkey and South Africa, Morocco and the Middle East. Saad joined Zurich in November 2008 as CEO Middle East and oversaw Zurich’s Life and Non-Life operations and strategic growth initiatives in the Middle East. A particular focus was the launch and expansion of Zurich’s General Insurance capabilities in the region through both Greenfield start ups in the DIFC, Bahrain and Qatar as well as gaining 100% ownership grandfathered rights entry in the UAE, Oman and Kuwait through the acquisition and integration of the Compagnie Libanaise d’Assurance, SAL.

Saad started his professional career at American International Group (“AIG”) in 1994 where he held various positions during his long tenure with the company. He commenced his career as a Management Associate focusing on specialty general insurance products, particularly Financial Lines. He held his first management responsibilities in regional product management in Europe followed by division level leadership for AIG’s French operations. Saad moved into general management when he was appointed to lead AIG’s Egypt operations post acquisition and market entry in 2001. He returned to Europe for AIG to lead the Commercial Segment. His last assignment at AIG was a global role in the implementation of their small business strategy.

His insurance career has led him to be based in New York, Paris, Cairo, Dubai and Zurich.

He holds a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Alexander Schmidt is global chief claims officer for AXA Global Direct (AGD) in Paris. AGD bundles most of AXA’s direct business, operating in 7 countries in Europe and Asia.

Prior to taking this role in 2016, he was Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company based in Cologne, Germany, where he was a core member of the European Insurance Practice. In this role he led and coordinated multiple engagements for international insurance groups, focussing on all topics in P&C.

Alexander has a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) and a PhD in Business Administration from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management.

Andrew is currently the Head of Claims (UK and South Europe) at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) – having been appointed to this position in October 2016 to oversee the establishment of the claims team which will support the growth of the Commercial Property, Casualty and Financial Lines books of business in the UK and across South Europe (including Ireland, Spain, Italy).

Andrew has worked in Insurance – and Claims specifically – for over 30 years, starting in the London market with Municipal Mutual in the mid-1980s before spending 24 years working for the claims team at AIG.

His career at AIG spanned the roles of adjuster, on-site investigator, section leader, team manager and finally regional leader – his last role before joining BHSI being the Head of Casualty Claims for AIG Europe.

Leonora has over 17 years of insurance claims expertise. In September 2010 she became Team Leader for the Claims Coordination Division of Aon UK’s Financial Services Group and in July 2012 Leonora moved to Aon Benfield to become Head of the Facultative EMEA Claims Division. In June 2014 Leonora was promoted to Head of Claims for the Global Broking Center in London where she was was responsible for the development and delivery of the claims strategy across the business. She was a member of Aon Risk Solutions’ Global Claims Leadership.
