In this role, Finchum oversees and manages all aspects of the MetLife Property & Casualty Claim Organization. She is responsible for delivering industry leading quality, efficiency, customer experience and employee engagement results through effective thought leadership, empowerment and development of over 1800 associates across six countrywide offices.

With a key focus on the customer experience delivered by a highly engaged workforce, the Claim organization enjoys best in class NPS ratings above 70; and the Homeowners Claim team was recently ranked by Consumer Reports in the top tier of “Best Carriers” and ranked fourth overall. The organization delivers this experience while maintaining a claim expense ratio which is among the very best in the industry.

Finchum’s relentless focus on diversity & inclusion and associate engagement has led to her appointment on the MetLife Enterprise Local Inclusion Action Team Advisory Board as well as the Americas US Diversity Task Force. Under Darla’s leadership, the MetLife Property & Casualty organization created diversity best practices which drove improved business results. Her involvement on these Enterprise teams provides the opportunity to implement these best practices across the broader organization.

History:

Darla Finchum was appointed Vice President and Chief Claim Officer for MetLife Property & Casualty in July 2014.

Finchum has worked in the Industry since 1986. She began her career with Economy Fire & Casualty where she held positions of increasing responsibility in the Claims organization. In 1994, she joined the St. Paul Companies where she held management positions in Claims, Underwriting and Sales. In 1999, she joined MetLife Auto & Home as the Director of Agency Services.

Finchum’s successes in the Independent Agent organization led to her promotion to Vice President of MetLife Auto & Home Service Operations in May of 2007, where she was responsible for the servicing of MetLife Auto & Home’s in force book of business and support of the Agency Distribution.

With the Auto & Home reorganization in 2009, she took responsibility for the Business Architecture & Sourcing organization, which included the Global Operations Support Center, Image & Workflow, Billing Strategy and Remittance Processing and the Auto & Home CSSG Partnership. 

From January 2011 to July 2014, Finchum was responsible for managing $400M in indemnity spend and $125 million in subrogation recoveries. She was also responsible for the Customer Centric initiatives in both the Claim Organization and across the Property & Casualty product. Her responsibilities included:

  • Voice of the Customer and Net Promoter Score efforts
  • The Auto Resolution Center
  • Subrogation and talent development
  • Training and associate engagement practices for associates in the Claim Organization
  • Managing $19 million dollar budget and 215 associates

Education:

Tim Felks was named Head of Property Claims for Farmers Exchanges in late 2013, moving to that role from his post as head of Mountain West Auto Zone, a job he’d held since late 2011.

Tim joined Farmers in 1997 as an APD field claims representative in Little Rock, Ark. He soon cross-trained in Property and began working both auto and property claims. After completing the Claims Management Trainee Program, he moved to Olathe, Kans., where he first served as a Property claims supervisor and then as a Property claims administration manager.

Tim then moved to Chicago to manage the Illinois/Wisconsin Property office, before returning to Olathe to run the National Property claims team and the Efficiency Corps. He then returned to APD as Claims Director for Centralized Auto Claims.

As the Associate Vice President of Property & Casualty Claims – Material Damage, Patrick has overall accountability for the Material Damage operation and leads Material Damage strategy, technical performance, policy/procedure development, On Your Side Repair program oversight, and partner relationships for Nationwide Insurance. Patrick is a native of Dallas, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. He later earned an MBA from LeTourneau University in Texas.

His insurance career began at Farmers Insurance. He transitioned into leadership and later managed branch claims offices, in Texas and California, before moving to Farmers Insurance Home Office as the National Auto Physical Damage Manager.

2004 – He joined Nationwide as a Material Damage Technical Director, supporting Eastern operations. He worked closely with field leaders and partners to drive consistency and improved results.

2006 – He led the National Recovery operation; leading teams, focused on Subrogation and salvage, to achieve significantly improved results.

2007 – He moved to Richmond, Virginia to lead the newly formed Mid-Atlantic Claim Zone (MACZ). There, he successfully consolidated two (2) regions to build a solid team of Material Damage, Casualty, Property, and other claim professionals. His goal was to deliver outstanding service, while focusing on developing leaders, challenging associates (in the area of personal growth), and appreciating the diversity of associates and clients.

2012 – He relocated back to Columbus, Ohio to lead Material Damage for Nationwide Insurance.

Prior to Claimatic and IAS, Larry was CEO of Pure Energy Group where he took the company out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and oversaw extensive successful exploration and production projects over five years before selling in 2006. Prior to Pure, Larry spent ten years with Arthur Andersen and Petersen Consulting as a management, turnaround and dispute resolution specialist. Larry earned his BBA in Finance from Texas A&M University as a CBA Fellow. Larry also became a CPA while at Arthur Andersen. He has been an active published author and speaker on claims innovation and automation in addition to other areas of interests.
